i need help with answering some discussion questions…. please provide answer under the questions, and include the references.
part 1:
We begin by watching this video on the topic:
[20 years ago, Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web. For his next project, he’s building a web for open, linked data that could do for numbers what the Web did for words, pictures, video: unlock our data and reframe the way we use it together.]
Questions and your reflections:
- “Linked Data” vs “Silo Data” for scientific study, your thoughts on its pros and cons?
- Is relation database (divide-and-conquer, splitting a large spreadsheet into smaller pieces for implementation) a counter approach to the notion of “Linked Data”?
- How is “JSON” data format facilitate this effort (you may Google search the term a bit)?
- Any reflections on the notion of “Cloud Computing”, “IoT (Internet of Things”, and its relevance to “Linked Data”?
part 2:
Imagine that you are a manager at Amazon. Write one or two paragraphs in response to the question “Why should a manager care about relational database management systems (DBMS), analytical databases, and business intelligence? In answering the question, you should keep the answers to the following questions in mind:
What is the relationship between relational databases, data warehouses, and data marts?
What is the role of a relational DBMS in SCM, ERP, and CRM applications?
What is the role of a relational DBMS in the Amazon website?
What would Amazon’s business processes be like if there were no RDBMS?
How might you (as a manager at Amazon) make use of business intelligence tools?
How might you (as a manager at Amazon) make use of data visualization tools?
What would your firm’s decision-making processes be like if there were no data warehouses and business intelligence tools?
part 3:
Find a news story, video, case study, movie clip… whatever… any kind of artifact that is relevant to any or all of the videos as well as the general topic of big data, data visualization, and/or artifical intelligence. The artifact can involve any topic related to data storage and processing, data display, and data-driven problem-solving. Provide some kind of explanation about why you chose that artifact and why it is relevant. Make sure that whatever you choose improves our collective understanding of the topic of data storage, data processing, and business intelligence.
Note: You will need to create your own thread to post your artifact. Make the subject your “last name: name of artifact.” Be sure to respond to (at least) two of your classmates’ posts.
