The course resources for this week all engage with CLO 4; “Analyze social actions that have led to greater equality and social justice in the US.” In recent years, historians have begun to recognize that viewing the postwar period from the perspective of diverse minority groups shows us how while there was not one united civil rights movement, there were many points of commonality and connection between movements for change and equality. This includes movements to end Jim Crow segregation and create racial equality, to create a more equitable immigration system, and to gain equal rights for women and homosexuals.

In his essay on Globalyceum, Mark Brilliant describes how historians have been developing a new understanding about the civil rights movement called the “Long Civil Rights Movement.” How would you define this new concept and to what extent does it fit with our focus in this course on incorporating diverse viewpoints? How would you incorporate the Gay Liberation movement and the Women’s Liberation movement into this chronology and analysis? What do you consider the greatest achievements of the broad civil rights movement encompassing the diverse groups we have studied this semester? What have been the greatest challenges or limitations to increasing equality and social justice?

Please read Chapter 5 and write about 600 words and provide detailed example.
