Purpose:
In this course we are primarily working with a Fedora Linux. Now its time to explore Other Linux. (Course Objective #??). The goal of this assignment is to build a comprehensive list of Linux distros that will provide supplemental information about a wide variety of tools and functionalities available in Linux platform.
Each student has to contribute at least one entry about a Linux distro or Linux functionality in a particular distro. Here are some possible choices, if you are not sure what id a distro, google your way.
Directions:
If you are posting in the beginning of the forum, create your own post about a distro which no one posted yet.
If you are posting near the end of the forum, and you are unable to find a new distro then pick a post on your favorite distro, and add other functionalities to reply to that post. Students are encouraged to post corrections/additions/changes to any other student entry in their comments for that page. Please note that comments are visible to all course members.
You are asked to provide the following information about the tool you choose:
Name of the distro?
Commercial / open source?
A safe site to download from?
Was it verified/ validated? ( Think how we verify software )
- Brief description about “what is it used for?” Or what functions it doesnt do comparing to another distro. (This will drive the discussion)
- Any dependencies on other software? What are those?
- Brain storm if you can find any other interesting facts about that distro.
