Question Description
IMPORTANT – ALL opinions need to be substantiated with primary evidence (i.e. actual research) or secondary evidence (i.e. textbook or another source that reports on research) in order for full participation credit to be earned. Students should be sure to be specific when citing their source (e.g. include authors’ names and pages numbers) so that their information can be verified. When sources are used outside of our textbook, references should be included at the end of the thread.
Instructions
- Perform a sport skill or physical activity that you have some experience with (e.g., swim 50 meters freestyle; starting from half-court, dribble for a lay-up), and time how long it takes you to perform. If necessary, have a classmate do the timing.(volleyball, soccer, swimming. chose one of those three.)
- record your actual performance time below.
- At a later time, lie down at home (or in the dorm) and imagine yourself doing the same skill or activity, and time how long it takes you to imagine.
- Record your actual performance time and your imagery performance time and then compare the two and answer the following questions.
Question 1 – Was there a difference in your actual performance and imagined performance times? If so, remember that imagery development is just like muscle development; it needs to be practiced. Your goal should be to imagine an experience in the actual time it takes to complete the experience. Practice, practice, practice!
Question 2 – If you are using imagery, what are you striving to do in relation to actual performance time versus imagery performance time? Why? If you are not using imagery, why not?
