2. Mid-Term Essay: Compare and contrast the terms “color-blindness,” multiculturalism/cosmopolitanism,” and “racial democracy,” explaining the benefits and limitations of each. According to the textbook, why is “racial democracy” considered to be the most useful? Referring to the 4 different levels of racial democracy (individual, interactional, institutional, and collective action), explain how racial democracy can be applied at these different levels in two contexts we have covered within the chapters we have read so far. So choose 2 of the following contexts: chp. 1: Race in the 21st century; chp. 2: Race as an invention; chp. 3: Politics; chp. 4: Economics; chp. 5: Housing; chp. 7: Education. You may discuss your personal observations and experiences where appropriate, but be sure to frame them according to terms and ideas from the book. This fosters the development of informed understandings based on established ideas accepted within the social sciences.
Be sure to use parenthetical citations to cite the textbook throughout your essay, and list the textbook, and any optional outside sources you may use, in a bibliography. Use the citation and bibliography format outlined in the “Getting Started” module on the Engage course page.
The Mid-Term Essay is to be at least 4 pages, plus a title page and bibliography. Type the essay using Times New Roman, 12 point font, and double space your text.
Submit your Mid-Term Essay to the Mid-Term Essay Dropbox in the Week 5 module.
