Question Description
I’m working on a criminal justice writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Task: Create a document that lists each question individually, numbering them accordingly and then provide your answer below. The format of this document should be similar to a worksheet, with a line for the question and a space for the response. Be sure to answer each question thoroughly and completely. Develop your responses fully by ensuring all parts of the questions are answered. One line responses will not be accepted.
Questions:
The Overt Drug Market Strategy video depicts the police telling the criminals that they have active cases on them and could arrest them any time they want, but instead of going the traditional route they are giving them a choice. How does that strategy correspond with Rational Choice theory?
In the textbook you read information that specifically talks about the decision making process of offenders. Create a diagram (you can use the Smart Art or Chart feature in Microsoft Word, your choice) showing how the 3 variables of the Routine Activities Theory were effected by the Overt Drug Market strategy. Identify how that strategy effected the Motivated Offender, Absence of a Capable Guardian, and the Suitability of the Target.
In the recent past we have seen the crimes of some pretty high-society (rich) individuals criminality come to light; specifically Robert Kraft and Jeffrey Epstein. Consider how Classical theories apply to them and summarize how it fits (or doesn’t) with their alleged criminal behavior.
In the chapter there’s a presentation about the “excitement of crime” and this is a major component of Biological theory and genetics. Explain how genetics and the “excitement of crime” factor correlate AND how sterilization of criminals was thought to be an answer to that problem.
- While genetics and sterilization were the “old ways” of thinking about criminal responsibility, the new model revolves around Neuroscience and how brain function contributes to criminal behavior and responsibility. Answer these two questions: Can neuroscience revolutionize criminal responsibility? and what happens to the criminal justice system if we create a world of criminal justice in which there is no blame, only prior causes ?
