1)Have you had a frustrating experience with customer support? Let’s say you receive a promotion from your cable company offering you a month of free HBO. Then they bill you for it. You call customer service and they say it’s a marketing promotion so you need to call marketing. Marketing tells you to call billing. Billing says they never heard of any such promotion. Are you ready to bang your head against the wall? Why did this happen?
2)While SMIS are presented as a benefit to businesses and consumers, they also have a dark side. Read the attached article titled “The Case for Investigating Facebook” by David N. Cicilline, a member of the House of Representatives and chairman of the House Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial and Administrative Law, and discuss.
3)Read “The Global Cost of Electronic Waste” and discuss the dark side of technology from e-waste to the loss of jobs. Identify and expand on one issue that you found most troubling.
4)View the video resource “The Cloud” and consider whether this video captures the full idea of the Cloud. Is the Cloud just a storage option or is it much more than that? Discuss.
