Family Case Outline

The family sought therapy due to parental disagreements over their daughter, Anna’s, behaviors. Lately, it was discovered that Anna is drinking alcohol with friends.

Daughter: Anna, 16, is a Freshman cheerleader and gets decent grades.

Mother: Tracy, age 36, has not been employed outside the home during her and Charles’ 20 years of marriage.

Father: Charles, age 36, is employed full-time outside the home. He was raised in a strict and rigid family.

Instructions PART 1

1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
2. Review the case study videos:

   3. Family Counseling Role-Play – Relational Problems with Couple and Daughter – Part 3(new tab)
   4. Family Counseling Role-Play – Relational Problems with Couple and Daughter – Part 4(new tab)
3. Complete an assessment on each family member in the video using the assessment format found in Appendix A(new tab) of the textbook Collaborative Therapy with Multi-Stressed Families.
   1. Include all the components that seem relevant for this family, including a likely DSM-5 diagnosis for the daughter.
   2. Be sure to include the ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes.
4. Incorporate two to three of the “externalizing” questions from Appendix B(new tab) as part of your assessment.
5. Your assessment format should follow accepted guidelines for assessments. While you don’t need to use formal APA style (although you should use one-inch margins and Times New Roman font size 12) as no references are required, you must follow proper spelling, grammar, and other conventions.
6. When you’ve completed your assignment, save a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor by the end of the workshop.

Background Information

After completing the 2.3 Assignment(new tab), you will write a reflection paper describing the social work theory you likely would use with this family, and how your own values, beliefs, and religion or faith would factor into your work with the family. Additionally, considerations such as human rights, ethics, and other possible conflicts will be addressed in the paper to give you an opportunity to creatively and critically consider such topics and issues to further deepen your understanding of incorporating the relational stance into your work with families.

2. Write a reflection paper answering the following questions:
   1. How would you advance the Zapata family’s human rights and why?
   2. What ethical issues are involved in this case? How might you address or resolve them? (Please cite NASW Code of Ethics(new tab))
   3. Aside from the relational stance, what would be the best practice to apply to this family and why?
   4. What are the conflicts in this case study, and how might you address or resolve them?
3. Your paper should be a minimum of three pages in length, double spaced with one-inch margins. Use Times New Roman font size 12 and follow all other requirements for an APA-formatted(new tab) paper, including a reference page (not included in the required page count).
4. Assess your paper using the rubric the instructor will use to grade your assignment and make adjustments as necessary.
5. Save a copy of the paper for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor by the end of the workshop.
