I’m working on a history discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Please read carefully the two primary sources: the editorial, “The Chinese-Facts For the Atlantic Papers,” 1874 and the cartoon, “Uncle Sam’s Thangsgiving Dinner,” (1869). The two sources have different views on the ability of immigrants to assimilate into American culture. Please briefly describe and contrast the article and the cartoon.
In your response, provide direct EVIDENCE from the editorial in the form of a short quotation of no more than one sentence and a clear visual reference from the cartoon. (Don’t just summarize the meaning of the cartoon. Find a special visual images to describe and analyze.)
What I’m looking for is YOUR own interpretation of the text. DO NOT cut and paste or loosely paraphrase from online sources in your written responses. There is no need to consult outside sources.
